Scale dependence of earthquake source parameters & fractals.

My work asks how complex physical systems are simplified when we infer mechanisms and parameters from limited observations. I approach that question through earthquake source physics and numerical fault-zone models.

The Geometry of Scale Dependence

Reconciling earthquake fracture energy with fractal fault-zone structures

A numerical stereology study testing whether the reduction of a volumetric fault zone to a planar observation can contribute to the apparent scale dependence of earthquake fracture energy.
